The Draft
How It Works
- Snake draft: Pick order reverses each round. If you pick 1st in round 1, you pick last in round 2.
- Timed picks: Each pick has a timer (set by commissioner, usually 60-120 seconds).
- Auto-pick: If the timer runs out, the system picks the best available player for your roster needs.
- Queue: Pre-rank players you want. If it's your turn and your top queued player is available, they're auto-selected.
- Draft rounds = roster size: A 16-player roster means 16 rounds of drafting.
Roster Requirements
Your league size determines your roster:
- Small (6-8 teams): 12 players — GK: 1, DEF: 3-5, MID: 2-5, FWD: 1-3
- Medium (9-12 teams): 16 players — GK: 1-2, DEF: 3-5, MID: 2-5, FWD: 1-3
- Large (13-16 teams): 20 players — GK: 2, DEF: 3-6, MID: 3-6, FWD: 1-4
World Cup Nation Limits
In World Cup leagues, you can only draft a maximum number of players from any single nation (default: 3, configurable 2-5). The draft board shows how many slots you have left per country. Plan ahead — if you load up on Brazil early, you won't be able to add more later.
Auto-Pick Logic
When auto-pick fires (timer expired or you're AFK):
- First, it checks your queue and picks the top available player
- If no queue, it picks the best available player for a position you need
- Nation limits are always respected — it won't auto-pick a player that would break the limit
Draft Strategy Tips
- Don't draft a GK early — the gap between the best and worst GK is smaller than other positions.
- Target high-floor midfielders in middle rounds — they score from goals AND defensive actions.
- In WC leagues, spread your nations early. Don't stack 3 from one country in rounds 1-3.
- Keep position balance — you need depth at every position.
After the Draft
- Undrafted players go to the waiver wire
- First waiver processing clears them — unclaimed players become free agents
- You can then pick them up via waiver claims or free agent signings
